Having confirmed that Law would be a suitable path to pursue, the second section provided useful guidance relating to how to make a successful application. For what it’s worth, my quick answer would be: People should do a law degree because studying law is interesting, important, and educational.

After watching the process for many years, in many different places, I’ve observed that law school involves three circles: the education that takes place within you, the education you share with your peers, and the education you experience with the faculty. The smart students adapt to this culture in the way that a canny anthropologist can “become” Yucatecan or Balinese. She has taught Contracts, Commercial Transactions, Sales, Secured Transactions, Banking Law, Negotiation, and Lawyering Skills. Book was a present for my daughter who is planning to go to University to study Law later this year. If you participated in class discussions, it may have been by offering your opinion about a text or issue.

Both judges and legislators are engaged in determining what sort of society we should live in, and in performing their functions each give effect to visions of what sort of society we should live in.

But if you ask the teacher, “Would these new facts also arguably meet the requirements of this statute? The first indication of the book's originality lies in its format: a series of 20 letters addressed to a prospective law student, who, by the end of the book, is in possession of a good law degree and contemplating his career as a lawyer. Part of what makes the Belmarsh case fascinating is that so many different (though not necessarily incompatible) views as to what sort of society we should live in were relevant to deciding the case.According to this reasoning, it is now incumbent upon the defendants to show the law by which this seizure is warranted. It is important to respect your colleagues for another reason: you will learn an enormous amount from them. In this hypothetical, the fact that the Stanleys have no income is not relevant, because this particular rule doesn’t require us to look at income. I do not like to mention this too early in the semester, because student attention spans have only just begun to expand, and you will be amazed by the end of the first semester how much work you can do and how long a seemingly dusty inquiry can hold your attention.

So you learn in law school how to figure out the answers on your own (and with your colleagues) for the rest of your career.

Your professors, and ultimately, the judges before whom you argue, will be most inclined to make the necessary leaps of faith if they see an argument that leads, like stepping stones, through the historical precedents to the next logical step. Only rarely will the court be persuaded by specific facts that the applicable rule is leading to an inappropriate result, and as lawyers we tend to disparage these moments. Arguing on the side of Politics, Sumption points to the legal sectors over-involvement in affairs which would seem wholly political, galvanised as a result of the deficit of effective politicians. Apart from addressing general misconceptions about law and becoming a law student it gives you tips and insights about all aspects of life as a student including how to get the most out of your time. I found a few areas where the book could have been improved; yet, it was still very educational and helpful!
