Description

All models support up to DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 memory, and 16 lanes of PCI Express 5.0 + 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0. Max Turbo Frequency refers to the maximum single-core processor frequency that can be achieved with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. See www.intel.com/technology/turboboost/ for more information and applicability of this technology. Intel processor numbers are not a measure of performance. Processor numbers differentiate features within each processor family, not across different processor families. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html for details. Intel Corporation. "13th Gen Intel® Core™ Mobile Processor Product Brief". Intel . Retrieved January 7, 2023.

Gen Intel® Core™ processors support the next wave of discrete graphics cards and storage devices. These devices take advantage of increased throughput coming with PCIe 5.0 as well the higher speeds and bandwidth of DDR5 memory. Finally, to close out our testing (we always leave the stress runs for last in case of disaster), our attempts to push the Intel Core i9-12900K to its thermal limits in a 10-minute run through Cinebench 23 in CoreTemp, we found the CPU posted a maximum temperature of 73 degrees C in our testing on a new Corsair iCue 360mm closed-loop liquid cooler.

Let’s Talk Processors

To output 8K 60 Hz video, both Thunderbolt ™ 4 ports on ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED must be connected simultaneously to the same 8K-capable display. Unless otherwise stated, data read and write speeds are based on theoretical performance. Actual performance may vary in real-world situations. Every new degree of freedom to test is arguably a doubling of testing, so in this case 2 3 means 8x more testing than a normal review. Fun times. But the point to drill down to here is the last one. Overall, while both Core i7 and i9 CPUs are useful in heavy-duty production laptops or in gaming laptops, their higher power draw and hotter thermal outputs often mean heavier designs that don't lend themselves as much to portability as i3 or i5 chips might. We'll leave it up to you to decide which is right for you, but generally speaking, for gaming laptops and mobile workstations it's almost exclusively a Core i7 H-Series CPU world.

All models support: SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, Speed Shift Technology (SST), Intel 64, XD bit (an NX bit implementation), Intel VT-x, Intel VT-d, Intel TXT, Hyper-threading, Turbo Boost 3.0, AES-NI, Smart Cache, Thread Director, DL Boost, and GNA 3.0. All models support: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, AVX-512, FMA3, MPX, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST), Intel 64, XD bit (an NX bit implementation), Intel VT-x, Intel VT-d, Turbo Boost, Hyper-threading, AES-NI, Intel TSX-NI, Smart Cache. This resulted in a near-parity gain in our F1 2021 run, as well as around a 5% bump to Cinebench R23 and the Puget Systems/Adobe Photoshop test. Not a huge bump, but also one that was the easiest to achieve given the one-slider tools provided to us by Intel. For the first time, Intel is bringing Intel® Volume Management Device(VMD) to PC chipsets to simplify storage control by allowing direct control and management of NVMe-based SSDs from the PCIe bus without additional RAID controllers or other hardware adaptors. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/hyper-threading/hyper-threading-technology.html?wapkw=hyper+threading for more information including details on which processors support Intel® HT Technology.

All of this is necessary, because as you'll see in our benchmarking results below, Windows 10 can be worse at scheduling a 12th Gen desktop CPU than Windows 11 is. This is mostly due to Windows 10 not knowing what it's looking at when it sees an E-core, thinking that it's just a low-performance core that doesn't have the same power spectrum on tap as the P-cores. As such, it can schedule the E-cores "incorrectly," as it were (though that's an over-simplification), due to its limited information. Meanwhile, the added info being sent from Thread Director to the Windows 11 scheduler is all incorporated into the mix, which should, again in theory, add up to increased performance in that specific OS. Get immersed in new worlds with all the power and performance you need. Intel’s performance hybrid architecture combines the intelligence of two unique core families, into a single CPU. In the Intel Core i9 12th Gen Processor 8 Performance-cores offer up superior performance across single and lightly-threaded workloads, while the 8 Efficient-cores have been optimised for multi-threaded performance, so you can game and multitask without compromise. We’re at the beginning of a new era for the PC led by the introduction of Windows 11,” saidPanosPanay, executive vice president and chief product officer, Microsoft. “With Windows 11 and Intel’s new Thread Director technology, users will see their PC performance reach new heights on the new 12th Gen Intel Core family of processors.”The primary competition to the Intel Core i9-12900K would be the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, though you could also include the Ryzen 9 5900X with its still-impressive 12 core and 24 thread configuration. As one can see from the above benchmarks, AMD remained ahead of Intel's older Core i9-11900K processor, but that's all changed with Alder Lake. The issue with games like Assassin's Creed: Valhalla arises either on launch or on load, because Denuvo thinks that the P-cores and E-cores belong to two separate systems, rather than two different core types on the same chip. Once it detects that some portion of the load has been split between the P and E cores, it sees the new cores as a new license holder (a separate system), and force-quits the game to prevent what it believes is two PCs trying to play one game on the same key. WQHD+ (2560 x 1600) IPS, 500 nits, 165-240Hz refresh rate with OverDrive, 100% sRGB, up to VESA DisplayHDR™ 400 Certified, Dolby Vision® support, NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ support, 16:10 aspect ratio The full 12th Gen Intel Core family will include 60 processors, set to power more than 500 designs from a broad set of partners. As detailed during Intel Architecture Day 2021, the new performance hybrid architecture, the first built on Intel 7 process, delivers scalable performance from 9 to 125 watts to enable every PC segment from ultra-thin-and-light laptops to enthusiast desktops and out to the edge.
