Relax, big breath, who’s in control?” says Hof. “Let the body do what the body is able to do, you are so much stronger than you think, you are going to be happy, the cold is real, it’s a force, your inner power, also your neurological networks, hormones, it all works for you, let it awaken …” Wim is an impressive human being, with absolutely astonishing achievements. The number of people who have benefitted from his method is, even if you adjust for the extreme cases who claim they've cured cancer, MS, etc, astonishing. And it shows that there's really something there, but it's probably a more complex answer than simply cold exposure and breathing. A cold shower can really motivate a person to go about changing other aspects of their lives. As such, Wim Hof has most certainly done a lot of good and, in spite of this pretty bad book, I deeply respect and admire him. Most would benefit from practicing this method. The Wim Hof Method: Own Your Mind, Master Your Biology, and Activate Your Full Human Potential is, perhaps not suprisingly, repetitive and peppered with all kinds of mysticism and pseudo-science. He discussed his methods, albeit, with some repetition. He mentioned various studies, but unfortunately, no deep dives into the science. I'd prefer a book based more around the science, but this was not Hof's intention.

If you have a bad hangover, do 3-4 rounds of the Wim Hof Method and this can supposedly cure a hangover. Breathing alkalizes the blood, which eliminates the acidity caused by alcohol. I have no doubt his method has helped many people but do not accept all he claims for it. That said, he is a passionate, inspiring and interesting individual who has achieved many remarkable feats. He certainly walks the walk.

Wim found answers in nature. This is an innate power we all possess. It’s been conditioned out of us and reinforced by an education system that isn’t focused on happiness, strength, health, or a deeper control of ourselves. If possible, loosen any clothes that restrict you from breathing freely. To start, breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth (lips pursed, as if you are whistling). Let the breath flow as deep as is comfortable into your belly. Breathe regularly and gently. If you are too distracted to focus your mind, steadily count from 1 to 5 during both inhaling and exhaling.
