About this deal

Another relevant point of inspiration was that I have always suspected that some of my closest friends are not from this planet! The factual presentation works really well as does the reality tv-style look into Bob’s day – it’s a very clever device and allows for lots of humour, particularly when combined with the magnificent illustrations. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Absolutely my favourite book to read to children, one of their favourites to listen to (though Daddy insisting on reading it never goes down well. Although at first it doesn't jump out as a 'typical' children's story as the illustrations are of an older style, this is what makes it unique and also what draws the children to it. is the 15th anniversary of the creation of Bob, Man on the Moon, celebrate with this anniversary edition. He knows almost everything there is to know about the moon - but there's something going on behind his back that he hasn't spotted. I can imagine this story would be wonderful to teach in a Primary setting as there are many directions you could take with the concept of the 'man on the moon' - Space topics, looking at difference and developing visual literacy, among them.

But the double page spread in the centre is a BIT MUCH for 3 year olds and because of this, The Man on the Moon cannot be in the bedroom at night-time. Bartram salutes William Joyce with his baroque images of a retro-futuristic everyday world and a smiley-face full moon, as well as his lucid palette of lawn green, clear blue and scarlet. This excellent picture book has enough depth to captivate pupils and is an entertaining storytime choice for Year 1 and 2. As a picture book, all parents will enjoy reading this story during the daytime or bedtime, the narrative is engaging and the children are fully absorbed in the images. It follows the story of Bob, an ordinary man with the extra-ordinary job of keeping the moon clean and entertaining moon tourists. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!

The text and the pictures are well connected supporting each other, however they have their own life too: the story can be read without looking at any of the pictures, and as the book is richly illustrated it is very easy to make up your own storyline without reading. This book was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Award (2003) and won the Blue Peter Book of the Year (2004) and it is very easy to see why.Squeezing in one more, this time a space-going hero that we have loved right from the very start of this blog.
