Scharon Harding has a special affinity for gaming peripherals (especially monitors), laptops and virtual reality. Right now I'm running with a uniform red, but pressing a key will momentarily change it to a random color.
Light up your desktop with vivid per-key RGB backlighting, fully customizable through powerful CORSAIR iCUE software. German-engineered and manufactured, CHERRY keyswitches are built to withstand a lifetime of gaming, with guaranteed reliability and a consistent key press feel for the full life of the keyswitch. It recently launched a new product into this revered family – the K60 RGB Pro Low Profile – and it wears its experience on its keycaps. We've also added a new Switches test box, added additional test comparisons to our Hardware Customizability test box that we introduced with our last Test Bench.Ultimately, you’re getting a pretty barebones design that’s a step away from plain and skips and distracting fuss in its appearance. There are no media buttons, no macro keys and not even a volume dial on the upper right hand corner. The Speed switches live up to their name, and keypresses take little force and feel as responsive as the Cherry MX Reds I’m used to gaming with.
I struggle to press every key on a full-sized keyboard at once, but with an online tool I was able to register 51 simultaneous presses with the K60 RGB Pro. On the other hand, the K60 has a better build quality, onboard memory, and its linear Speed switches don't make as much typing noise. Everything to do with the K60 RGB Pro Low Profile is managed through the Corsair iCue software, which is excellent. If you’re an aggressive typer who often bottoms out, you’ll be hearing that metallic ding a lot; although, it’s louder on other keyboards, such as the SteelSeries Apex Pro. It doesn't come with a wrist rest, but it's comfortable to use without one, thanks to its low profile. So if you want to make different profiles for various uses, like different games, you must have the software running.
After, you can adjust things like mouse input and movement, as well as delay time and which actions trigger macros to begin or keep running. This keyboard subs out the Cherry Viola switches from the regular RGB Pro with fancier Cherry MX RGB Low Profile Speed switches, which are constructed a little sturdier and require a little less force to press. Both switches need 45 grams of force to actuate, but the Speeds also have a shorter 1 mm pre-travel, (as opposed to 2 mm on the Violas), making them more suitable for twitchy tasks like gaming, at least in theory. The spacebar, as is typical, is the loudest, with an extra plastic effect to it and the more frequent ding from the aluminum top plate. There’s also one that lights up the whole keyboard in a rippling effect starting from your latest keypress, giving the Corsair K60 RGB Pro Low Profile some fun interactivity. Typos are also still more frequent than I’m used to, but I attribute this more to my lack of experience with low profile switches than the keyboard itself. These keycaps also have a slight downward curve toward the top that works with the concave shape to give my fingers a comfortable place to rest. The iCue software created by Corsair lets you take unprecedented control over the look of the K60 Low Profile, while the Cherry MX Low Profile RGB Speed switches give you an edge over the competition.
His work can be found across the web, with bylines at GameSpot, Metacritic, The Wall Street Journal, and more. Windows Central is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. The keyboard does sport an aluminum backplate located just below the keys, but the underbelly of the Corsair K60 RGB Pro Low Profile is plastic. Bright, Dynamic Per-Key RGB Backlighting: Illuminate your desktop with near-limitless colors and effects. However, the Corsair is more comfortable to type on due to its low profile, and the iCUE software lets you save more custom profiles.
