Another activity using all the resources we have available in the classroom or at home. Using paper cups, simply cut and fold using the instructions provided to make your 3D paper cup sunflowers. You can choose to paint them afterward to make them even bolder! Take your scissors and cut the tissue paper along the outline of your previously cut plate. Set aside to dry for at least 5 minutes. Sunflowers have the be the happiest flower out there. Every time I see one it makes me smile, maybe because they’re so big, bold, and bright.

Engage in delightful creativity with the Sunflower Craft with Paper Plates for kids of all ages, a perfect DIY activity capturing the beauty of sunflowers. We will start by cutting our paper plates. With a pair of scissors, cut triangles around the entire outer edge of the plate. Grab a paper plate, and cut out small triangles at a slight diagonal out of the outer rim of the paper plate. Continue around the outside of the paper plate. For a mathematical sunflower theme, this printable addition and subtraction activity will encourage your students to practice their counting skills in this fun matching game. This can be adapted for a range of students depending on your learner’s needs. We suggest printing on the card and laminating it for future lessons! We highlighted this Fall Craftalong with some other fun kid's crafts in our September Craftsalong with our101+ Easy Kids Crafts.

This activity will require a little more prep and careful hands so we recommend it for older children. Using felt and coffee beans and a hot glue gun, carefully cut out a range of sunflower petals from felt and construct a stunning wreath to be hung from any door in the house. This activity is written in easily readable chunks to make the process simple! Now you can have you kids make these adorable paper plate sunflowers! It’s a great summer craft that will make everyone smile. This handprint sunflower is fun too! Once the plate and tissue paper are dry, spread a 5-inch diameter circle of glue thinly. Take each 2 x 2-inch square, crumple it, and press it to the glue. Repeat this step filling the circle with “seeds.” Once dry, fold each large paper plate in half, then in half again. Sketch on a petal shape and cut it out. When you unfold this it will look like a flower.

Another math-themed sunflower activity and a sure crowd-pleaser for the younger students. This great color-by-number activity will have your students practicing spelling and color recognition whilst matching up the correct colors with the numbers. Work on math skills by counting the petals with your preschooler or the sunflower seeds with your school age child. Next, cut a piece of yellow tissue paper into a 12 x 12-inch square. Spread glue evenly onto the paper plate and press the sheet of tissue paper onto the plate. Smooth out the wrinkles and ensure the tissue paper is secured to the plate. For older learners, learning about brush strokes, tone, and famous artists is a must-do for any art curriculum. This YouTube video will explore how to draw Van Gogh’s famous ‘Sunflowers’ piece. These can then be decorated in a range of mixed media.

For instance, you can use the leftover yellow tissue paper to make a bee craft - cut it into thin strips and use craft glue to make them in a 'v' shape as wings! Some other ideas include: Eye-catching and easy to make, these beautiful tissue paper sunflowers are the perfect rainy day activity. There’s a template to use or have your children draw one. Simply scrunch up bits of tissue paper and glue them down into a sunflower shape. The finished pieces can be mounted onto a card as a gift or simply pinned up for display. The perfect gift to give for Mother’s Day, Grandparents Day and more. It would be a great craft for school and to send home as a gift with the kids.
